Tell Kayleigh that I can totally relate with her desperate desire to be a mermaid. Been there. Still there, actually. :)

I THINK I've played Dominion before if you've brought it to game night. Thing is, I actually miss the collectible part of MTG as well. Brought back some of the thrill when I used to collect baseball cards of finding that one random treasure every now and again.

If you ever want to scratch the deck-building itch of Magic again, but without endless packs of 15 cards to unwrap, remind me to get you to sit in on a game of Dominion sometime. They managed to make the deck-building the game, and put it in one non-collectible package.

I still have 20-30 VHS cassettes of anime series I copy from Kurt. I've gotten official copies of many of them over time, but the fansubs are still my favorites in most cases. In some ways I wonder if anime isn't somewhat like Nick Jr. - the cartoons exist primarily as a vehicle to drive people to buy stuff related to it. I know I've certainly bought my share of Ranma 1/2 knick knacks - I still have a resin cast Shampu and P-Chan sitting on my window sill in the toy collection (I have no idea if they're licensed or not - I got them off a street vendor in Singapore). My daughter has an A!MG wall scroll hanging in her room. And I own a legit copy of everything Miyazaki's done, thanks to my exposure.

So I dunno. It is, clearly, a weird situtation.

Derek, if you never got the need for net books, then the iPad probably isn't for you. I didn't think I needed a netbook per se, but that's exactly the niche this has fallen into for me. Since I bought it, I haven't opened my personal laptop since the day I synced everything onto the iPad. As a gaming platform, it's perfect for me as a casual gamer, and the browser and email give me so much more with the extra real estate without the burred of the laptop.

I see this type of behavior regularly in student work. The misuse that currently bugs me the most is "statistically."

"It has been statistically shown that the number of Internet users has increased..."

Really? Statistically?

I like netbooks. I like my iPhone.

I don't like the developer changes with the new OS, for iPhone and iPad app development.

I don't like my phone service enough that the iPhone is a compelling reason to stay with my phone service when I look at my contract.

So, I don' t know. I've seen it now. It's neat. I don't have to have one. ^_^;

Well, two thoughts. One, if the subject somehow comes up in conversation, I'll probably lead with something like, "I know this sounds like it doesn't work at all, but..." Two, shame, here? ;)

I'm not arguing you can't make a good story around a dumb premise. Especially if you're Alan Moore. But seriously, come on. Maybe it works better as an indepth story than a quick summary. But you can't tell me you can seriously say "This story is about Mogo, the sentient planet that's also a Green Lantern" and not feel just a little bit ashamed.
